  • Both Taylor Burk& Olivia Van Dyke will be guiding participants throughout this workshop. Uncover the art of photographing landscapes through the lens of a landscape and adventure photographer and discover unique perspectives in regards to creative portrait photography.

    Storytelling Through Photography

    Explore how to weave compelling narratives into both landscapes and intimate portraiture, transforming them into visual stories that captivate your audience.

    Directing Models

    Learn to direct models in natural, candid situations to capture authentic moments. Develop the skills to create a comfortable and collaborative environment while establishing trust between the photographer and the model.

    Lighting and Composition

    Learn how to harness natural light in both outdoor and indoor settings, along with techniques for using artificial lighting.

    Editing and Post-Processing

    Gain insights into the post-processing techniques specific to landscape and portrait photography that will elevate your images to a professional level.

    Hands-On Learning

    Get the chance to put your newly acquired knowledge into practice during the guided photo sessions, receiving real-time feedback, critique and guidance from Taylor and Olivia.

  • This workshop is catered to photographers with varying goals, experience levels and aspirations. Whether you find your camera collecting dust, you’re longing for more shooting opportunities, you want to grow your portfolio, or just simply seeking an excuse to try a new style and meet new people, we offer the perfect solution.

    We welcome everyone.

    Everyone benefits from a room full of talented creatives, bouncing ideas off one another. Limiting this to 10 people creates a more intimate learning environment, allowing for one-on-one time with each guest.

    Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm & Dinner at 7pm / January 18th 2024

    The day will commence with a welcome gathering at La Arca Studio. From there, we will take part in a series of portraiture sessions, where you will have the opportunity to shoot with professional models as well as collaborate with a makeup artist. Additionally, we will delve into the realm of still life photography, honing your skills in capturing the intricate details and unique beauty found in ordinary objects.

    To wrap up the day we will meet at a different location in the evening to have a family style dinner consisting of a catered meal by the very talented Meesh Coles, fostering connections and conversations over delicious food.

    About La Arca Studio:

    “This beautiful heritage space, built in 1910 is comprised of, one large space with an arched walkway, and a separate room perfect for make up and wardrobe. Still with original wood window frames and doors, and thoughtfully curated vintage pieces, it is the perfect combination of old world character and modern minimalism.”

    We'll kick off the day by meeting at La Arca Studio where we will dive into post-processing, and the back end of running a photography business.

    Afterwards we will head to Grouse Mountain for a snowshoe (or hike, depending on snow conditions) adventure in the alpine. This is a great opportunity to potentially push outside of your comfort zone!

    The highlight will be a scenic photo hike for sunset and blue hour, searching for inspiration along the way. There will be challenges assigned to help get the creative juices flowing. We will be focusing on the use of different photo techniques like multiple exposures & slow shutter and how to make the most of the conditions we are presented. The focus will be on the little details as well as the bigger picture, how to connect the two and tell a story with your photography. This day will be landscape photography focused but there will be a model available to step in when necessary. After we depart the mountain we'll return to the studio to warm up with a hot beverage, marking the end of our experience.

  • • 2 days of Photography lessons and personal guidance by Taylor Burk & Olivia Van Dyke. Our aim is provide mentorship and support to assist you with your creative visions throughout the workshop. We are here to help and critique wherever necessary.

    • A catered lunch and sit down dinner will be provided on day one by world-class private chef, Meesh Coles.

FAQ

  • -Travel costs to Vancouver/LA Arca Studio as well as accommodations are the responsibility of the participant. (We will be starting on the morning of the 18th and plan to finish early evening on 19th. We recommend that you arrive a day early if you’re travelling to Vancouver from abroad.)

    -Alcohol - we are not licensed to serve alcohol but guests are welcome to bring their own to enjoy responsibly at the end of the day!
